A LITTLE PLANNING. FEWER SURPRISES.
Tile layout planner.
Count the boxes.
Give your tile idea a floor to land on. Change the size or starting point and see what happens at the edges.
Your tile plan
Saved on this device when availableLoading the layout…
A rectangular layout sketch. No perimeter movement gap, openings, installation pattern, breakage process, or cut reuse is modeled. Tiny tiles may be too small to distinguish on screen; counts still use the full grid.
At the edges
Widths are the tile material that remains. An edge can also land inside a grout gap.
Two different counts
A cut piece is not necessarily a whole purchased tile. Offcuts may be reusable, but this tool does not plan or guarantee that reuse.

THE NUMBERS, OUT IN THE OPEN
A layout count is not
a shopping list.
Room area ÷ tile area tells you an area equivalent. Edges and your chosen starting point decide how many separate pieces appear on the floor.
A 300 × 240 cm room is 7.2 m². One 60 × 30 cm tile is 0.18 m². The area equivalent is 40 tiles. With a user-chosen 10% allowance, that is 44 tiles, rounded up to 6 boxes of 8: 48 tiles. At 32 per box, the estimated total is 192 in your currency.
The 4 tiles above the allowance are box-rounding surplus, not a prediction of what will remain after installation.
How are boxes calculated?
Area basis: round up (room area ÷ tile area × (1 + allowance ÷ 100)). Piece basis: round up (drawn piece count × (1 + allowance ÷ 100)). Then divide by tiles per box and round up again. The area basis includes the whole room, including grout.
Why does centering change the cut count?
Moving the grid changes where tiles meet the walls. A centered tile or centered joint may create pieces at both edges. Every tile rectangle that intersects the room counts as one piece; a piece is “cut” if either dimension is smaller than a full tile.
Can I use the preview as an installation drawing?
Use it to compare the measurements you enter. Verify the room, product instructions, required edge clearances and installation details separately. This model has no perimeter allowance and does not optimize saw cuts or match a manufacturer's installation requirements.
Do my measurements leave this device?
The tool itself makes no tracking requests. It saves a plan in browser storage if available. A shared URL carries an editable copy; anyone with that link can read its measurements and prices. Reset replaces this tool’s saved plan with the example.
