A worked example · invented titles, real arithmetic

Forty copies, one clear plan.

For Sidewalk Weather, 40 copies are available and 24 go in the bag. Reserve 4 for trades and 2 for gifts: that leaves 18 for sale. At USD 1.25 to print each copy, the 24 packed copies represent USD 30.00 of print-cost exposure.

Tiny Night Bus adds 16 packed copies, including 3 trades and 1 gift. Its print cost is USD 2.50 per copy. Together that is 40 packed = 30 for sale + 7 trades + 3 gifts, with USD 70.00 in print costs represented. At 60 g and 90 g per copy respectively, the zines weigh 2.88 kg. Your bag, table supplies and any new swaps you bring home are extra.

After the fair: count each outcome once.

Suppose Sidewalk Weather has 12 sold, 3 traded, 1 gifted and 8 remaining. That reconciles to 24. Compared with the plan, 6 fewer were sold than allocated for sale, 1 fewer was traded and 1 fewer was gifted. The 8 brought home from the fair plus the 16 kept at home leave 24 copies of your original stock.

At the entered USD 5.00 sale price, those 12 sold copies represent USD 60.00 in receipts at listed price. This is not profit or a record of actual payments. Discounts, refunds, fees, tax, travel, table costs and other unknown costs are excluded. Trades and gifts create no sales receipts here; incoming swaps are not part of your original-title inventory.

A plan, not a sales forecast.

You choose the quantity to bring. This tool does not predict demand or recommend an optimal stock level. If you pack a different quantity, update “Bring” before reconciling. Keep your own payment records for actual income and expenses.
